Shipbuilding is an industry where the know-how of various industries is utilized in many ways to manufacture exceptional products. At Helsinki shipyard we design and build ships, inside of which is practically built a small town.
There are currently 400 shipbuilding professionals at the shipyard, working mainly in connection with the design of the vessel and its systems, project management and in different tasks related to the construction and outfitting of vessels.
“The ship project takes from two to three years, and you can literally see the completion of the ship from plans to the finished ship ready for her maiden voyage outside one’s own window. It’s always a moving moment when a ship leaves for her home port”, Mohamed Elameen, Ship Theory Engineer.
The third Vega-class Expedition Cruise Vessel “SH Diana” was delivered in the end of March 2023. SH Minerva, the first sister of SH Diana, was delivered from the shipyard on December 3 of 2021. The second sister, SH Vega, was delivered on July 8 of 2022, just a few months after SH Minerva’s delivery. On our website in “News” you can read more about the ships and the news related to them.
“It’s nice to see how, as the project progresses, people start playing the same tune and the ship starts to come to life as the various functions are completed”, Kari Savolainen, Department Manager, Electrical Design.
Helsinki Shipyard is a working place where you will be given responsibility according to your work experience either in a wider job set, or you can focus and develop yourself into becoming a specialist in a specific area. With us you can take on interesting challenges in a nice workplace.
So, who enjoys working at the shipyard? Isko Kuha, Senior Designer in Machinery Design, says that the conversational way of working is an advantage for the shipyard and a big reason for him to work in shipbuilding. Adaptation to close teamwork is very important.
The shipyard offers a wide occupational health service to its employees and according to the shipyard tradition there are also sickness funds supporting the health of shipyard employees. The gym at the shipyard is freely available for employees and in the instructor driven shared training, if not earlier, you’ll meet colleagues working in different departments at the shipyard. Shipyard employees also organize different activities in their free time.
