About Baltic Sea Day

6.9.2024

Baltic Sea Day is an annual celebration in honor of the sea started by the John Nurminen Foundation. The goal is to inspire people to enjoy our unique home sea.

Pleasantly many of the shipyard workers were excited to participate in our Baltic Sea Day activity “Clean the beaches”. 43 energetic trash princesses and princes set off from Helsinki Shipyard. It was not a chore all when the weather was perfect!

Garbage collectors were given a garbage bag and protective gloves, as well as information on which direction they could go to hunt for garbage. One hour was given to fill the sacks on land; and 2 x 30 minutes at sea so that we could fit two different crews on board the boat.

Canteen Murtaja contributed to the cause as well – the lunch menu featured dishes inspired by the Baltic Sea countries throughout the week.

Thanks to everyone who participated! The Baltic Sea thanks you!
